New additions to my health regime

My goals:

  • eat more vegetables
  • fewer processed foods
  • less sugar

New things I’m trying:

  • regularly eating cloves of garlic- it’s a little gross but if you chop it up and chase it with water it’s not so bad. I’ll try to do it once or twice a day. This is supposed to kill the lyme bacteria, in addition to antibiotocs (allegedly?) Garlic is really good for you so taking it can’t be a bad thing. haha
  • organic apple cider vinegar (Bragg’s brand)- i’m trying this one like a tea, 1 tbsp of the vinegar, 1 tbsp honey (local honey), in a cup of water. wasn’t terrible, and i’m sure I’ll grow to like it over time. I’ve read it can really clear up acne and make you healthier overall, so in addition to helping with my herx reactions it really can’t hurt, right?

I’ve tried both of these things today and have my lemon tea next to me right now. I’m physically exhausted (it’s what happens after a weekend of chasing drag queens, haha) but my head feels much better than usual. Much clearer. I hope it continues to improve.

I’m making a really epic vegetable soup as we speak- carrots, celery, onions, garlic, purple cabbage, kale, yams, and mung beans, in addition to bay leaves, salt, pepper, and a little soy sauce. I’m so excited. I should have enough afterwards to have lunch for most of the week. It’s really delicious, you guys. Kind of having a foodgasm over here, haha

I hope everyone is doing well! Let me know what things you are doing to stay healthy! Take care of yourselves! <3

Health Activist Writer's Month Challenge: Day 4

I write about my health because… Reflect on why you write about your health for 15-20 minutes without stopping.

I write about my health because I want the opportunity to connect with people who are experiencing something similar. I want to help demonstrate that there is more than one face of an illness,  or even state of being. When I write about having Asperger’s I want to show that there are people like me, who are fully functioning and are disguised as so-called “normal” people. Same with Lyme, and with Dermatillomania. I think it’s an interesting opportunity to share my experiences, because these are invisible things. I look perfectly normal on the outside, while my head is running with reactions to when people realize I may be a little physically weak, or may not be able to work up to their expectations.

I think that documenting my life in this regard is very interesting, and it also allows me to connect with people who are experiencing something similar. Especially if anyone is having a difficult time, I want to reach out to them and help them out. Blogging has been beneficial in this sense. This is why I do it! :)

My herxing has been HORRIBLE lately.

I am going to the supermarket tomorrow morning to buy some various things. More vegetables. I’m gonna make a shit ton of vegetable soup and take it to work all of next week. I’m also going to play around with various food supplements to try and feel better. It’s simply things like garlic and apple cider vinegar- no herbal supplements or anything like that, just food. I’ve been off my game lately.

I will post back with the things that help me feel better. Take care everyone <3

Was out last night to a drag bar and met one of my favorite ladyboys. I was guzzling iced yerba mate the whole time to stay awake- it was a fucking long drive. Totally worth it, but I’m exhausted as all hell today. Damn you lyme

Health Activist Writer's Month Challenge: Day 3

Superpower Day. If you had a superpower – what would it be? How would you use it?

I would have the ability to control my physical state at all times. It has been my largest obstacle as of late, especially being tired when I shouldn’t be, and vice versa. It wouldn’t require caffeine or any medications either. I can be hyperactive, sleepy, calm when I need to be. And if I time it properly I can probably fit a little ass-kicking in there as well. That would be cool.

Also, you know, flying. Superman and I would be BFFs.

Thanks for the suggestions guys :) I don’t know too much about it but my friend takes it and she doesn’t even have lyme. I’ll talk to my doctor soon! Hope all goes well! Hope you’re also both doing well! <3

Probiotics Question

insaneuniqueandsimplyme replied to your post: switching my probiotic…

What probiotics do you use? I always used Dr Ohhira’s and they were amazing, I was on a bunch of meds and as long as I took those didn’t have any major problems with yeast and nausea like I did when I wasn’t taking those.

I’m taking Saccharomyces boulardii from Ortho Molecular Products and the Ther-Biotic Complete Powder from Klaire Labs. My doctor provides me supplements through her office and this is what she recommended I take- this way my health insurance can pay for it. The powder has 100+ billion units which is significantly stronger than the probiotic I took before which had 20 billion units. It’s only been one day but I’ve had no complaints thus far. Thanks for the suggestion though! I’m glad you’ve found something that works for you! I hope you continue to feel better! <3

Health Activist Writer's Month Challenge: Day 2

Quotation Inspiration. Find a quote that inspires you (either positively or negatively) and free write about it for 15 minutes.

“Life is too important to be taken seriously”- Oscar Wilde

I love this quote because it is simple at a glance, but once you begin to dissect it there is so much meaning lying within. It reminds me to take one day at a time and enjoy life. I always stress myself out by thinking too far ahead and it is a reminder that I need to relax. This is also a huge motivator for me to get better- I am young, and want to enjoy life while I can, and the sooner I get there the better!

Also, is it bad that I kind of want to live in Oscar Wilde’s idealized world? Everything is a perfect Victorian image full of wit and sass. His plays are hilarious, and who doesn’t love beauty? It’s taken me a little while to realize that it’s okay to be a little vain and self-loving, and that I should embrace the things I enjoy as long as they are humane and work within a lifestyle I am able to maintain. As long as I save money, am productive and can take good care of myself while working with my limitations I have every right to indulge (within reason). In this case it’s a lot of shopping, haha. We have every right to enjoy our lives and do not deserve to shut ourselves off from a world of happiness. So even if you are sick like me, please do me a favor and indulge in something that you enjoy. It’s the least you deserve.

Could you post tips for people trying to cut back on picking? I’m having a really hard time with it right now due to stress, and I’m so upset with myself, and there are all these horrible feelings of self-hatred and guilt and shame and more self-hatred swirling around…

Health Activist Writer's Month Challenge: Day 1

Health Time Capsule. Pretend you’re making a time capsule of you & your health focus that won’t be opened until 2112. What’s in it? What would people think of it when they found it?

My Health Time Capsule would certainly contain wrappers from all of my antibiotics, probiotics, and supplements. I would throw in some arch supports, b/c, you know, I’m an elderly person at 23. I would also throw in the pill containers from my antidepressants since it’s been such a battle dealing with this anxiety. I think I may be able to stop taking it soon which is awesome, but we’ll see!

Also? Lemons. They may not keep for 100 years but figuratively. Also, a teacup. And pictures of my cats. They’re cute and keep me sane. People would probably just think, “oh, she has some health issues. whatever. and she’s a crazy cat lady.” I’m cool with that. This is my arsenal for battling Lyme.

switching my probiotic...

I’m now taking two- one of them is a capsule, the other is a powder i have to refrigerate and dissolve in water. I have to take these guys at home around dinner time, which means I have to completely reorganize my pill schedule. I’m bumping my second antibiotic dose up to around 4pm so that there is enough space between the doses. These are super strong probiotics so it should help the nausea (which has been coming back lately) and it also means I don’t have to take a diflucan every few days to prevent yeast overgrowth. Go me!

I feel like I should probably be on a few more supplements though. I’m still exhausted all the time and my limbs are always limp- I walk a lot but I can’t stand up quickly… The D3 is certainly helping and I’ve been doing my best to eat more vegetables, but it may not be enough. Fortunately, I have a doctor’s appointment in a few weeks and I can bring this up. I’ve been thinking about Cat’s Claw, as well as a few others. I’m only on D3 and a B-Complex right now- what supplements do you guys take?

Also, I know it’s late but I’ve decided to do the Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge, so look out for that! <3

was-us-now-we replied to your post: It must be once every 3 weeks that I have to leave work early due to lyme-related fatigue. youre so lucky you can get a job :) hope youre feeling better soon :)

Haha it’s tough but I try. If I don’t have anywhere to be I will pretty much just sleep or watch tv, don’t have the energy for much else. My entire life is essentially work and sleep. Its just weird because if i weren’t on these antibiotics i would have MUCH more energy, but alas, i need them to get better. It’s all about self-regulation for me, which is something I need to get better at (i got 6 hours of sleep the night before writing this which is not nearly enough for me) But thank you for the kind words, I hope you begin to feel better soon too! <3

It must be once every 3 weeks that I have to leave work early due to lyme-related fatigue.

I hate this. At least we weren’t doing anything important but I really wish I could be productive. Today was an especially bad combination of fatigue/headache/nausea. I seriously thought I was going to throw up. I don’t like this. I hope I’m able to get shit done in the summer for my new job, that’s all.

Your tone seems very pointed right now.: In defense of Phi Phi O'hara → maddylouboo.tumblr.com

maddylouboo:

Wow, that title is going to get a lot of shade thrown at me.

I’ll start out by saying that I also think Phi Phi behaved poorly a lot of the time. I don’t want her to win, just like most of you out there don’t want her to.

BUT THE WAY THAT PHI PHI O’HARA BEHAVED DOES NOT WARRANT SO MUCH BULLYING,…

I’m not a fan of Phi Phi but I agree with you completely. Do I think she has some deeper issues to work through? Yes, of course. Do you think she regrets the way she acted? Possibly. She was edited as the villain- every reality show needs one. Yes, she DID say all of those mean things to the other girls. But it doesn’t have to resort to BULLYING from fans of the show. I’d expect fans of RPDR to understand this especially. Yes, I may get annoyed with her antics, but I try to focus on my undying love of the other contestants instead.

If you don’t like something, pull a Willam. Respond with a non-reaction. don’t fuel the fire. Works every time. I’m so much happier since I’ve stopped caring about drama. It’s a waste of your time. Don’t buy into it.

Sharon Needles is trending on Twitter in most US cities.

I think we’ll be okay.

Or maybe this is a ploy to bring Willam back and crown him instead? I’d be perfectly fine with that. I just hope the internet is able to recover from this freak out.

AAAAHHH TONIGHT

At this point I have no clue what will happen. But I’m Team Sharon/Chad all the way. Both are flawless in their own ways, and extremely entertaining to watch. These ladies are both beautiful and talented with kind hearts, and still manage to remain polar opposites regarding their performance styles and execution of drag. I would be equally happy with either winning.

Hoping tonight works out for the best. Werk it ladies!

(This is what happens when you have lyme. lots of tv. exciting right?)

I'm losing weight...

Shit. I don’t know how I feel about this. Fucking food intolerances. I know I won’t become underweight from this which is good, and I do feel better, but I just hope I can stay the same weight long enough to not have to buy an entirely new wardrobe. Cuz fuck it, I have some cute shit.

I hope I can eat dairy soon enough. I miss eating cheese. That’s all.

So how’s everyone’s weekend been?

No wonder we get along so well. Whether people like Drag race or not will forever be a gauge in how well we are going to get along, I guarantee you. Not that I have a problem with that.
